Packers’ running back Josh Jacobs was released from Brown County Jail after he was arrested on Tuesday following an incident at his Hobart, Wisconsin home.

Jacobs was arrested Tuesday, May 26 after the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department responded to a disturbance complaint on May 23. The charges were domestic violence related. He was charged with Felony strangulation and suffocation, Battery domestic abuse, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct and intimidation of a victim, according to an article by cbssports.com.

Following his release on Wednesday, Jacobs’ attorneys said they were “extremely pleased” that Jacobs was released from custody with no charges filed against him. They emphasized that their client “vehemently denies the allegations.” They continued to say they encourage the public to “keep an open mind while the matter is fully reviewed,” according to wisn.com.

Jacobs’ attorneys David Z. Chesnoff, Richard Schonfield and Clarence Duchac have reiterated that Jacobs remains “absolutely innocent until proven guilty,” and he isn’t being treated any differently than anybody else.

The Brown County district attorney's office stated they “were not yet prepared” to make a formal charging decision at this time after reviewing evidence. There is “reason to believe that additional evidence may exist that would impact whether charges are appropriate and what charges would be issued,” according to a press release from Brown County district attorney David L. Lasee.

Brown County district office emphasized that while the Wisconsin state law allows for an arrest with probable cause in domestic abuse cases, the standard for filing criminal charges would be higher, which requires admissible evidence that meets the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt, according to newson6.com.
