Ex-NFL linebacker Aldon Smith found dead in car
Former NFL linebacker Aldon Smith, 36, was found dead in a car on Saturday.
“We are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith,” the 49ers said in a statement. Smith’s death is under investigation.
Santa Clara County Chief Medical Examiner Michelle Jorden told the San Francisco Chronicle in a statement that his death is under investigation.
“The office of the Medical Examiner is confirming the death of 36-year-old Aldon Jacarus Ramon Smith, who died today June 13, 2026,” said Jorden. “The medical examiner is investigating his death and no further information is available at this time. The cause and manner of death are pending.
Smith was drafted 7th overall in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers as a defensive end. Smith played in San Francisco for four years. In his career, he played in 75 games having a total of 228 tackles, 52.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one interception.
