Russell Wilson has officially announced his retirement from the NFL after a 14-year career. He is set to be the replacement for Matt Ryan on “NFL Today.”
Wilson announced his retirement on June 3 at 37-years-old in a social media post. “Thank you, Football, love, #3,” said Wilson. Wilson had a 14-year playing career, playing the majority of his career with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted 75th overall in the third round in 2012, per bleacherreport.com.
Wilson played 10 years with the Seattle Seahawks, these are what his stats were over the course of that time. He threw for 37,059 yards, 292 touchdowns in 158 games. He became the only player in NFL history to surpass 40,000 pass yards and 5,000 rush yards in week 2 of the 2023 NFL season.
He won the Walter Peyton Man of the Year award during the 2020 season. Wilson set many records in his playing career including being the only quarterback to have at least 30 touchdowns and 15 or fewer interceptions in four consecutive seasons, per espn.com. With Seattle, he appeared in back-to-back NFC conference games in 2014 and 2015, winning the super bowl in 2014 against Peyton Manning and the Broncos and appearing in super bowl 49 against Tom Brady and the Patriots.
After the 2021 season, Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos where he played for two seasons. He made one stop in 2024 with the Steelers and then the Giants in 2025. Wilson is now set to join the “NFL Today,” replacing Matt Ryan who took a front office role with his former team the Atlanta Falcons.
