Two-time pro bowler Vita Vea has opted for a “hold-in” during the start of training camp while he awaits a new deal.
According to Colin Roberts, agent of Vita Vea, a trade request was made following the lack of a new deal for the former 2018 first round pick, per msn.com.
A day following the trade request, head coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Vea “tweaked something,” in his back while running conditioning drills to start camp. While there aren’t signs of the severity of the injury, head coach Todd Bowles didn’t appear to be concerned. It appears promising that Vea attempted conditioning drills.
Vea conducted a “hold-in,” during mandatory minicamp back in June after failing to secure a deal. Bowles said at the time that it was “not concerning,” and “it’s part of the business.” Bowles had declined to comment on whether he was confident both sides would get a deal done before training camp.
He is set to earn $18 million in his final year of a four-year contract signed back in 2022. In 2025, Vea appeared in all 17 games recording 34 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and seven tackles for loss. In his career, he has 256 total tackles in 112 games played with 35 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
